Grooming is not an Asian Crime, says Leader of Rochdale Council

“This is a horrendous crime against children. In this particular case it’s a case of Asian men and white girls,” Colin Lambert, leader of Rochdale Council, told the House of Commons Home Affairs Committee today.

“Right across the country, and on a wider European scale, it’s not always men. It can be men and women. It’s not always white or non-white. It’s an issue of child sex abuse.”

Last month, nine Rochdale men was found guilty of a number of offences including rape and conspiracy to engage in sexual activity with a child, after exploiting vulnerable girls as young as 13.

Tory chairman Baroness Warsi then said that a “small minority” of Pakistani men see white girls as “fair game” whilst Jack Straw, Labour MP for Blackburn, claimed after an abuse trial in Derby last year that some men of Pakistani origin saw white girls as “easy meat”.

However, Lambert said: “If their clear statement is that the crime was committed because of the Asian community, then I strongly disagree with them, because it’s too easy to badge a crime. It happens right across all our communities. In terms of badging it as an Asian crime, that’s wrong.

“There are issues in all communities.”

Greater Manchester Police’s Chief Constable, Peter Fahy, told the MPs that, looking at sexual offences as a whole, “Asian men do not feature disproportionately”.

But he added:  “If you look at this kind of offence [grooming], on the streets, then clearly Asian men do feature disproportionately.”

There are 41 children’s homes in Rochdale, which house vulnerable children from all over England. Of the 60 children living within them, only one is from the borough.

The council’s chief executive, Jim Taylor, said social services were “now better equipped” to deal with future cases and that more than 9,000 young people in Rochdale had received awareness training to deal with threats to their safety.

Nine more arrested over ‘grooming’ in Rochdale

Nine men have been arrested in a second sexual grooming inquiry in Rochdale, Greater Manchester Police have said. All the men are aged between 24 and 38 and have been questioned on suspicion of sexual activity with a child.

These arrests are the result of an inquiry into the sexual exploitation of a teenage girl that began in 2005.

The men have been bailed pending further inquiries.

This inquiry follows the conviction of nine men from Rochdale and Oldham who were jailed for running a child sexual exploitation ring and who had targeted vulnerable girls as young as 13. During this trial, five girls gave evidence, but police believe there may have been up to 47 victims.

🚨’I was Brainwashed’, says Rochdale grooming victim who was 15 at the time of her ordeal 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 🇬🇧

“We would get free alcohol and cigarettes, food, free taxis.

“At first I thought it was great because nothing sexual had happened, I thought I could just get all of this stuff for free.”

The men, she said, were friendly, simply chatting with the girls now and again in a takeaway shop.

“It made me feel like I was pretty. I never thought that they would do what they did to me, because you don’t think that would happen.”

Then, things changed.

“He asked me to come upstairs and I didn’t really think anything of it.

“He then was saying all the things he had bought for me, and he wanted something back for it.

“I tried to say no in a nice way, but he wasn’t having it.”

After a while, she was being driven to different houses or flats where there would be other men waiting.
“At first I felt really bad, dirty and ashamed. But after a while it had been going on for so long and with so many different men, I didn’t feel anything towards it anymore.

“What they did to me was evil, they ripped away my dignity, my self-esteem.”

This continued for months.

Then one evening, she was arrested by police for smashing the counter at a takeaway where some of the men met the girls. Then, she told the police.

“I was scared telling them, because I didn’t know what the consequences would be from the men.

“They threaten you, and you’re scared of them, and that’s how they make you do it.”

The men led the girls to believe they were in relationships with some of them, and it was normal to have sex.

“They’re just brainwashing you so you think you love them so you do what they say.

“It’s not a normal relationship when your boyfriend is getting you to sleep with all his friends for money.”

Greater Manchester Police (GMP) investigated Kabeer Hassan and another man, aged 59.

But when the Crown Prosecution Service reviewed the case in summer 2009, it was decided that the girl “would not be viewed as a credible witness” – a decision not appealed against by GMP – and no prosecution was brought.

“I felt let down. I know they believed me, they said to me at the end that something should have been done.”

The abuse then continued, with a number of men who she had not seen before joining in.

Social services became involved when she started to arrive at school dirty and sometimes smelling of alcohol.

At the time, she was living with an older victim but when she became pregnant by one of the men, she moved back in with her parents. She continued to receive phone calls from her abusers, and cars with drivers she recognised were parking outside.

“I wouldn’t go out of the house for nine months on my own without my mum or dad, because I was frightened,” she said.

“Eventually I moved out of the area as I couldn’t stay there anymore.”

It was not until summer 2011 that Nazir Afzal, the new regional head of the CPS, reversed the decision not to prosecute.

By then police were investigating allegations from another girl about on-street grooming in Heywood.

This eventually led to the successful prosecution of nine men for offences included rape, trafficking girls for sex and conspiracy to engage in sexual activity with a child.

The woman now wants her story to be told to help people spot the signs of grooming, which she describes as “a common thing that not enough people know about”.

She plans to become a social worker, partly due to the ordeal she suffered while still a vulnerable young girl.

“It will always be there, but I know how to deal with it,” she said.

“I’ve had a lot of problems in the past, suicide attempts and drinking, but now I know something is being done to prevent it happening again.”

Revealed – The Asian men who groomed and raped White girls ‘as young as 13’ 🇬🇧

Defendants in Rochdale grooming trial

Nine Asian men who “groomed” white girls, some as young as 13, have been found guilty of being part of a child sexual exploitation ring.

Two others accused of being part of this ring – Qamar Shazad and Liaquat Shah both of Rochdale – were acquitted and walked free from court.

All came from Rochdale and Oldham, with eight of the men being from Pakistan and one from Afghanistan.

The case which was heard at Liverpool Crown Court had sparked protests from far-right groups.

The men – aged between 24 and 59 –  had plied their victims with drink and drugs so they could “pass them around” and use them for sex.

The court was told that the abuse, which began in 2008, had taken place at two takeaways in Heywood, Rochdale.

Some of the girls were beaten and forced to have sex with “several men in a day, several times a week”

One teenager told the jury she was forced to have sex with 20 men in one night.

Another recalled being raped by two men while she was “so drunk she was vomiting over the side of the bed”.

Police said the victims were from “chaotic”, “council estate” backgrounds. The girls were targeted in “honeypot locations” where young people were seen to congregate, such as outside takeaways.

All those convicted were found guilty of conspiracy to engage in sexual activity with girls under the age of 16.

A 59-year-old Oldham man – who cannot be identified for legal reasons – was convicted of two rapes, aiding and abetting rape, sexual assault and trafficking for the purposes of sexual exploitation.

The men accused and pictured above are:

Kabeer Hassan, 25, of Lacrosse Avenue, Oldham, who was convicted of one count of rape.

Abdul Aziz, 41, of Armstrong Hurst Close, Rochdale,  convicted of trafficking for sexual exploitation but cleared of one charge of rape.

Abdul Rauf, 43, of Darley Road and Adil Khan, 42, of Oswald Street, both of Rochdale,  convicted of trafficking a child within the UK for sexual exploitation.

Mohammed Sajid, 35, of Jephys Street, Rochdale, convicted of one count of rape, sexual activity with a girl under 16 and trafficking for sexual exploitation but not guilty of a second charge of rape.

Mohammed Amin, 45, of Falinge Road, Falinge, convicted of sexual assault.

Hamid Safi, 22, of Tweedale Street, Rochdale, convicted of trafficking girls for the purposes of sexual exploitation.

Abdul Qayyum, 44, of Ramsay Street, Rochdale, convicted of the conspiracy charge.

Qamar Shahzad, 30, of Tweedale Street, Rochdale was found not guilty of conspiracy and acquitted.

Liaqat Shah, 42, of Kensington Street, Rochdale, was cleared of two charges of rape and the jury were unable to reach a verdict on the conspiracy allegation.

George Galloway – one million lives lost in Iraq ANALYSIS

03 Tuesday Apr 2012

ANALYSIS

George Galloway’s stunning victory at Bradford West has been treated with awe and adulation by his supporters and dismay and disgust by those who are not.

It is the nature of the man that he has polarised opinion in this way.

For on one hand, there is the George Galloway who champions causes such as the Mariam appeal that highlighted the devastating effect a decade-long sanctions were having on the children of Iraq, whilst on the other, there are many who are left wondering exactly why he is doing this.

One subscriber has asked me, what my impressions of him have been.

So, here goes.

The first time I met George Galloway, he was the Labour MP for Glasgow Kelvin, a maverick but highly confident about his position within New Labour.

He was so confident that he attempted to launch a newspaper aimed at the Asian community, for which I worked.

In one interview he gave me for the newspaper, he informed me that the Taliban were a creation of the CIA and that the Americans were aiming to use them against China some time in the future.

That interview was conducted some four years before 9/11.

Of course, the majority of his work at this stage was about Iraq and what sanctions were doing to this country, a country that was also being bombed by US-UK  aircraft, who had set up no fly zones.

The daily grind which eventually cost half a million lives of small children received little or no attention here, as did the deaths of civilians from the bombing raids.

Iraq continued to be in a state of war during this decade, and yet newspapers over here, were more interested in George’s business dealings with Saddam and then later with the Benazir Bhutto-backed East newspaper.

There was even a story of a fling with a Cuban maid, something he denied.

No doubt, little Mariam who he brought back from Iraq for treatment in Scotland, and her mother will probably have nothing but good things to say about someone who in highlighting a great crime against humanity also saved a life.

Having said all this, I remember being asked to stop writing Amnesty International sourced stories about the Algerian government killing its own people during that country’s brutal civil which had begun because the military would not accept the outcome of an election that put the Islamists into power.

George had even written a piece questioning the legitimacy of Amnesty and its claims.

The last time, I saw him at this stage was during a speech where he presented the back to health Mariam to the world.  He was clearly angry with the media at the time, who were opening many lines of inquiry into him, and decided to accuse me of being part of the enemy, or as he put it, ‘my old friend at the back.’ (of the crowd, where I was struck by the ferocity of his verbal attack)

The second time I encountered George Galloway, was at Press TV where he is a star. Then, he had been expelled from the Labour party, and had also lost his parliamentary seat due to boundary changes at Bethnal Green.

He was angry with me the first time, because I had not opened the door to him – I was actually lost in my work at the time, though he didn’t seem to want to know. The next day, he said hello, and I later discovered why – I had given my showreel to the head of documentaries who proceeded to use my ideas from there as well as from my website. I remember George claiming on Sky that he was the first to predict that Libya would descend into post Soviet Union Afghanistan-style chaos with the fall of Gaddafi. Actually, I beg to differ and so does my twitter entry dated 20 March, 2011!

This, and his behaviour in public,  all of course pointed to someone who was a spent force, someone in the twilight of their career.

Well, events in Bradford have proved everyone wrong – although I did notice that he used a number of my lines during his victory speech, especially the one about one million lives being lost in Iraq which I used at City University’s own version of Question Time.

Having said this, you would be a hard man to not applaud his return.

The question is now, will he deliver to the people who have put their faith in him?

🗳 George Galloway wins the Bradford West by-Election 🇬🇧

Guess who’s back..

George Galloway’s victory and its scale on Friday surprised everyone.

Perhaps, it shouldn’t have.

The Respect MP has appeared on Press TV for some time now, talking about the very isues that matter to ordinary Muslims, especially the young.

When Tony Blair threw this man out of the Labour Party he immediately made a matryr out of someone who had dared to stand up to a Prime Minister that was about to take this country into an illegal war.

Then, there was that appearance on Sky News during Israel’s Lebanon war, where he forcefully put across the other view, namely that Tel Aviv was the aggressor and not Hezbollah.

Of course this is a protest vote, it was the same for Bethnal Green and Bow where the Respect MP ousted Oona King.

George Galloway has been called maverick. He is that, however the Labour High Command need to take a long hard look at themselves, and to listen to some of the things he said after that stunning victory, in which he secured more votes that all the other parties combined.

Labour cynically fielded a Pakistani Muslim and assumed that would be enough to regain this safe seat.

One only has to look at Bradford as a whole – never mind the West – to know how badly the people of this city have been let down by professional politicians.

At the moment, Labour isn’t working – it isn’t coming across as a viable alternative to the Coalition, something that worries those who are concerned about the social consequences of George Osborne’s programme of austerity.

Perhaps, finding a way of bringing Galloway and his Respect Party back into the Labour Party, would be a good place to start.

For at the moment, he appears as an uncomfortable reminder of how bady Labour Party is letting down everyone.

Cutting Child Benefit to the Wealthiest

Child Benefit, George Osborne

This Budget has made one huge mistake – perhaps not in financial terms, for the wealthiest can easily afford this cut, and definitely not politically for a country that is undergoing such a severe recession will welcome the rich losing a bit of money, but certainly morally.

All children born in this country are future citizens, and should thus be treated in the same way, irrespective of the wealth of their parents they are born into.

Child Benefit signalled – if only symbolically – that this country had a stake in every child born, a principle which is no longer there.

(Child Benefit will be reduced incrementally when someone in a household earns more £50, 000 – and at £60, 000 it will be removed completely, source The Financial Times, 22-3-12)

Mohammed Merah, the gunman who killed seven people, is dead after a 32-hour siege at a flat in Toulouse.

He was shot by a police sniper as he tried to jump out of a bathroom window after commandos had stormed his flat.

Merah had carried out three separate attacks, killing four people at a Jewish school and three soldiers.

He had said he was acting to “avenge Palestinian children” and protest against French military interventions overseas.

The 23-year-old who was reported to have received al-Qaeda training, opened fire on police commandos after they stormed into his flat at 9:30 this morning. (GMT)

Prosecutors said he was shot in the head as he tried to flee.

In a news conference, Prosecutor Francois Molins said a police marksman had killed Merah as he tried to jump out of the bathroom window.

Trapped in the UK in the year 2012 🇬🇧

China and India are said to be the rising stars of the economic world and if last night’s Piers Morgan’s programme on Shanghai is anything to go by, this will all mean some people are going to get incredibly rich.

Trouble is that in this arena of winners and losers, there are an even larger number who will not and who will suffer in this brave new world.

BBC News carried a report through out the day about illegal workers from India who had come to Britian to get work and perhaps a better life.

Well, the recession has paid put that idea and since those illegals burned their passports when they arrived here, they are trapped because the Indian government says that since they do not have the correct paperwork they can’t return home either.

The pictures of despair and sheer desperation that were broadcast were perhaps the most disturbing to be shown on terrestrial television yet.

One young man who said he was 21 had just been released from prison and was back on the streets – clearly for him the free world had nothing to offer. How did he get into trouble in the first place  – shop lifting to get him the drugs that get him through the day.

Then, the reporter took us to the place where many of these illegals, non existents, spend the night in the cold exposed to the weather, with little more than drugs and an appalling sound born of misery to get them by.

It just so happened that these poor people are from India, there are others also Russia Today broadcast report last December about Polish people getting by eating rats.

No doubt there are others from every corner of the Third World, including of course China.
