UKRAINE, East – Rebels say Ukrainian soldiers still control a supply road. Nine soldiers and seven civilians have died during fighting for the town which holds a key railway link and neighbouring Avdiivka since Sunday. Kiev says twenty six soldiers have also been injured. Ukraine’s President Petro Poroshenko told Parliament the rebels had also attacked Kramatorsk, 30 miles from front line. Meanwhile, Ukraine says it has made gains north east Mariupol in several villages close to the border to Russia.

UKRAINE, East – Germany announced the summit in Minsk after an ‘extensive’ phone call between all four leaders today. Germany said the leaders had agreed to a package of measures that would bring a ‘comprehensive end’ to the Ukraine conflict.

UKRAINE, East – Francois Hollande and Angela Merkel are to travel to Kiev on Thursday and Moscow on Friday to discuss what they described as the ‘Ukraine War’. Their visit comes as Washington is debating whether to rearm the Ukranian government as it is losing territory to rebels in Luhansk and Donetsk. Rebels have been accused of launching an attack on Mariupol, whilst rebel leaders have declared Luhansk and Donetsk independent self governing states and surrounded the strategic town of Debaltseve. The French President is quoted as saying that he doesn’t believe Ukraine should join Nato.

ICC, Hague – Croatia claimed the Serbs had committed genocide against the town of Vukovar in 1991. Serbs claimed the same when Croatian forces attacked Kranija four years later.
Judge Peter Tomka said both sides had commited violent acts but ‘neither side had showed the specific intent required for acts of genocide’.
Some 20,000 people were killed during the Yugoslav wars of 1991-95.
