KIEV – Ukraine blames casualties on new heavier weapons being deployed by Russian backed separatists in eastern Ukraine. Rebels who occupy Donetsk and Luhansk say one of their soldiers was killed. Ukraine’s borders started to close in when Russian tanks rolled into Crimea in 2014.
LONDON – The intervention which led to the overthrow of Libyan dictator Muamor Gaddafi was not based on ‘accurate intelligence’ and has led to the emergence of DAESH in the north African state – a report by the foreign affairs committee said. The Nato air campaign that was conducted by the UK and France in aid of rebels had lacked a coherent strategy. The committee also said the threat to civilians posed by Gaddafi to justify this military intervention had been ‘overstated’.
WASHINGTON – In their first major response to the Ukraine conflict, Washington says America will deploy three combat divisions in eastern Europe from next year onwards. Russia annexed Crimea in March 2014, and Russian backed separatists seized parts of eastern Ukraine after protesters in Kiev overthrew a Moscow backed regime.
MOSCOW – Russia says it’s independent foreign policy is a threat to US and it’s allies. Relations between Moscow and the West deteriorated over the conflict in Ukraine.
