🏦 So, what are your plans for the economy, Mr Obama? 🇺🇸

TEMPLATE ANALYSIS

When Barack Obama broke the mould to become the first African-American to lead his nation, there were many tears – and many fears.

For the America, that this Democrat inherited from George W Bush was in a hole – economically, thanks to the banking crisis and his predecessor’s fiscal over spending.

There was also, some outside his nation told him, the problem with America’s foreign policy.

Of course, those voices don’t vote.

That left the economy, which was little more than a disaster.

Now four years on, the national debt is $5 trillion dollars bigger, whilst three million more Americans are also unemployed.

His supporters would point to healthcare reform, which gave more Americans access to medicare than before.

Trouble is, America already spent a colossal amount on health care, before this very expensive  intervention by the Democrats.

And this is a country where fifty per cent of the nation still does not pay tax and where the next biggest burden on the county’s finances – alongside healthcare – is welfare spending.

Over the weekend, the Obama camp ran a series of ads attacking Mitt Romney’s economic credentials and the result is that today, the two are tied for the race for the Presidency.

This week is of course the turn of the Democrats to accept Barack Obama’s nomination to run for as their candidate for the White House.

What he will need to spell out during this week is what exactly he plans to do with the American economy over the next four years – because the best that could be said of his last term is that it could have been far worse.

How to Repair Pakistan – US Relations (Change the President) 🇵🇰 – 🇺🇸

ANALYSIS

If, as appears likely, Mitt Romney will defeat the current incumbent at the White House in November’s Presidential election, one country will look forward to the eviction of Barack Obama – namely that of Pakistan.

From the outset, even before he was elected, Obama spoke of bombing PAKIStan and true to his word, drone strikes, which will surely be remembered in the same way as GITMO was for George Bush, have marked this Presidency – the last one on Wednesday in the so-called tribal belt killing three people.

And then there was the Nato strike which killed 24 Pakistani soldiers, for which Isaf has still not apologised, and which even to the most impartial of observers looked like an act of war, a pre-emptive strike.

At Chicago, the President of Pakistan, who is hated within his own country for being an American ‘puppet’ demanded that the US pay £3, 200 for every Nato lorry that will pass through Pakistan, if she was to reopen a border crossing closed after that fatal incident involving 24 Pakistani soldiers.

And today comes the first confirmation – if not official – that the Americans got their man with the jailing of the doctor who helped the CIA find Osama bin Laden.

Shakil Afridi who had charged with treason and for running a fake vaccination programme was jailed for 30 years in Khyber district.

The raid which was celebrated in the US angered the Pakistanis, who claimed that it was a further violation of their nation’s sovereignty.

So if indeed, a Republican is heading for the CEO’s job at Washington, then the people of Pakistan will be the first to be out on the streets to celebrate.

Labour Peer denies ‘Obama bounty’ claims

Suspended Labour Peer Lord Nazir Ahmed has told The Template that he did not call for a £10m bounty for the capture of US Presidents Barack Obama and George Bush.

He was reported to have made the remark by a Pakistani newspaper.

But Lord Ahmed said the story was “lies” and that he had never mentioned a bounty for President Obama or Bush.

The Express Tribune said the comments were a response to a US reward being offered for the capture of a Pakistani radical, Hafiz Muhammad Saeed who founded Lashkar-e-Taiba, the group which is blamed by India for the 2008 Mumbai terror attacks in which 166 people were killed.

Lord Ahmed is said to have made the remarks at a reception in Haripur on Friday.

Labour has suspend the peer, pending an investigation.

Afghan Pullout

Not anytime soon

Barack Obama has announced that his nation will pull out 33, 000 of her surge troops by next September.  Earlier in the week,  America admitted to holding talks with the Taliban. Both events can be seen as a logical conclusion to the American President’s address earlier this month in which he said that the man responsible for the greatest mass murder on his country’s soil was now dead. On the face of it, the logical conclusion of all this would a complete American pullout of Afghanistan. History has shown, however,  that where Great Powers are concerned, nothing can be taken for granted. It was such for Great Britain and Imperial Spain, and despite America’s repeated denials at being an empire it will be the same for the Stars and Stripes. The last time, America found herself embroiled in a war she could not get out was of course in Vietnam, which had become a defeat in 1968 after the Tet offensive which led to the dramatic annoucement at the time by the then President Lyndon Johnson that he would not be seeking a second term at office. It took another seven years for them to leave, during which time they had held talks at least twice with their sworn enemy, the Vietcong, on each time the demand of their foes was the same – a complete withdrawal. Today, the demands of the Taliban are the same – a complete withdrawal, but with some 70,000 US troops still remaining after 2012, those in Afghanistan who are hoping to see the last helicopter gunship leaving the skies of Kabul may have to wait a while longer.
