TEMPLATE ANALYSIS UKIP has arrived – at the expense of everyone (Conservatives and Labour)

TEMPLATE ANALYSIS

Last night’s by election results propelled UKIP’ s first MP into the House of Commons – Douglas Carswell who trounced his old party the Tories by 12,404 votes to take Clacton. Almost as remarkable was the result from Manchester where Labour held on to their former stronghold seat of Heywood and Middleton by just 617 votes. Labour have been warned, one donor claimed, the public want them to get serious about immigration. With the prospect of a second UKIP seat in Rochester and Stroud,ย  as Mark Reckless stands against his old party, the old order is being shaken claimed Nigel Farage, for his is now a national party.
Primarily, UKIP’s rise in support has been a reaction to the surge of immigration from eastern Europe which is part of this country’s commitment to the European treaty a surge that saw huge numbers of first Poles, then Romanians and Bulgarians arriving in every city. The trouble with that was whilst talk of being swamped with foreigners was racist under any political dialogue,ย  it was difficult to avoid the obvious – that too many had arrived in too short a time and because of the open borders of Europe even more could. UKIP have taken the floor from under the BNP and allowed ‘middle’ Britain as well it appears the working class north to articulate their concerns about being part of Europe and the costs and benefits for this country of this relationship. After last night, the Conservatives and Labour will have to take UKIP seriously for this is a party that has clearly got hold of the concerns of a silent and until now sleeping majority – how those parties will respond to this challenge as this country gets closer to the May 2015 election is of course the question. For the Tories, expect stronger anti Europe speeches as David Cameron attempts to shore up the party’s core voters, which of course leaves Ed Miliband who will not be able to take for granted old Labour loyalties,ย  for voting UKIP doesn’t mean you are voting for the racist BNP. Perhaps, Labour faces the greatest challenge, but both parties are going to have show how they are going to contain European immigration into this country something they have been unable to do so far, they are going to have to lay out concrete plans and a timetable that will result in real improvements on the street.
As for the deluded Lib Dems,ย  they are finished.

โšฝ๏ธ The end of England as a football force? ๐Ÿด๓ ง๓ ข ๐Ÿด๓ ง๓ ข๓ ฅ๓ ฎ๓ ง๓ ฟ

ANALYSIS –ย Since securing the World Cup trophy in 1966, England have only come close to winning a major tournament twice – in 1990 at the World Cup, and in 1996 during the European Championships. On both times, they were knocked out by Germany during a penalty shoot out at the semi final stage.ย  Arguably on those occasions they could have gone on to win each title, especially in 1996 when they were playing like no one else on earth.
So, the debacle at Brazil 2014,ย  after the disastrous performances in the European Championships where England never convinced anyone on their way to being evicted in the Quarter Finals, have opened up a painful inquisition as what has gone wrong with the national side. Harry Redknapp who was most people’s choice to coach a side badly needing inspiration said that some players sick of the media stick did not want to play for England and asked him when he was boss of Spurs how they could get out. Graham Taylor, who was infamously dubbed turnip head by The Sun when he was national coach, has backed Redknapp’s comments, saying this was nothing new. You only have to look at the sight of Steven Gerrard facing the media over his future to get an idea of what type of pressure England’s highly paid but badly floundering ‘stars’ have to go through every time there’s a major tournament. Like Wayne Rooney, the England captain was once tipped for greatness to be a Ronaldo or Messi, sadly they are neither, just plain overrated – products of a system that nourishes and encourages mediocrity, a system where any one who shines at the beginning is gradually ground down by the English way of doing things, an approach that has long been left behind on the European continent by nations such as Spain, Germany and France.
If England are ever to bring home a trophy again, then there will need to be a realistic appraisal of their chances by everyone who makes the decisions and by those who report and cover the national side.
Of course, there needs to be changes at grassroots – but that will take a long time and if those changes are implemented the results will not be immediate.
At the heart of the country’s failure on the football field is the English FA whose decisions are always at odds with the general consensus amongst the British public.
Trouble is they have kept getting it wrong from the moment Terry Venables walked off the field after England’s exit from Euro 1996. They may have been able to get away with ignoring the clamour to make Brian Clough the head coach before, but today the national side is suffering after a series of disastrous decisions over the last eighteen years. Unfortunately, the latest decision to keep Roy Hodgson as the coach despite the fact that he’s clearly not up to the job means England’s long suffering fans will have to endure many more years of failure – certainly well beyond the World Cup in Qatar 2022.
All of which poses the question no one wants to face up to – are England finished as a football force?
Sadly, the way things stand at this moment the answer to that stark question has to be – YES.

Lord Oakeshott also says he regrets the ‘upset and embarrassment’ to his old friend Vince Cable. He says he wishes he had spoken to Cable before he had condemned Oakeshott’s poll on Clegg leaving. Oakeshott says he will be leaving the party he helped to set up because he doesn’t agree with the direction the Lib Dems have taken.

Budget 2014: Coalition can’t hide that Britain is suffocating under a failed economic policy

TEMPLATE ANALYSIS

George Osborne’s budget for the year 2014 was a clear attempt by the Conservative Party to shore up its core voters –ย  the old and the rich who have been largely shielded as the county has suffered under the weight of austerity.
But there was no real attempt to help those who have been hit by the 40 per cent rate of tax,ย  the very people that championed Thatcher and her reforms.
The Chancellor fears that they will move to UKIP during the next general election yet his budget did little to redress the central problem of the tax rates –ย  that middle England is paying the same rate as the very richest,ย  and all the while the level of debt this country owes has remained largely the same.
Even the news that the level of personal allowance is to be raised above ยฃ10 000 has a sting in its tail – it could mean a rise in temporary work.
That on top of of the few pence that were recently added on the minimum wage means that there was little to help the little man.
More than this Osborne’s demeanour and PR statements talking up how well he has handled the economy show that this is a party and coalition government that has lost touch.
All they need to do is take a walk down any street in any town. And they will see Britain isn’t breathing, it’s suffocating under a failed economic programme.

The Trouble with George Galloway (a.k.a Obi One Kenobi)

Courting controversy at all costs

TEMPLATE ANALYSIS

George Galloway’s return to politics a year or so ago was a welcome sight to everyone – even his detractors. Here, was a man cast out of his party by a Prime Minister whom many believe to be a war criminals, who against the odds, which in the case of his departure at Bethnal Green and Bow was boundary changes, had shown the triumph of human spirit when he unseated a Labour candidate at Bradford West.

Well, that’s what some of us thought a year or so ago.

What a difference a year makes..

Since then, of course there have been his remarks about ‘bad sexual etiquette’ when defending accusations against Julian Assange, which forced the only star in Respect, other than himself of course, to resign in protest, one Salma Yacoob.

If that wasn’t bad enough, there’s been talk of the Respect MP making a film to take on Michael Moore, and even running as London Mayor, which all begs the question – where does he get the time to do all this, isn’t he meant to be serving the good people of Bradford who put their faith in him at the ballot box?

It turns out, councilors within Respect’s party were asking the same question also, their resignations yesterday were accompanied with the complaint that he wasn’t taking his job as MP for Bradford seriously.

Ron McKay, George’s staunch friend, claimed conspiracy which may or may not be true. However more than a year on from those great and triumphant scenes and Galloway has little to show for his time as an MP for the good people of Bradford.

Sadly, the longer his term and more it appears as little more than a vehicle for one man’s gigantic ego, a platform for greater exposure in a world where people say anything and do anything to be a celebrity.

The first strike on Ed Miliband, and what the Labour Leader should do now

04 Friday Oct 2013

Ed Miliband, George Osborne, Labour, Muslims, News, Politics ๐Ÿ’ผ ๐Ÿ—ณ ๐Ÿช–, The Conservatives, UK

TEMPLATE ANALYSIS

Labour had a good week with their leader emerging, to the relief of many inside and outside party, as a contender.

He had a bounce in the polls, a fact not replicated by the Tory Party at their conference last week. George Osborne’s speech which was seen by some as a play for future Party leadership got a tepid response. Sometimes silence can be interpreted as a sign of respect. It did not feel like that to the outside observer. And as the Prime Minister speech promises of opportunity in this land of plenty .. well the less said about that the better.

Most people who support the Conservatives knew this was going a tough conference for a party that has taken difficult decisions and at times appeared to favour its core supporters, rather than the country at large.

So the Mail’s salvo on the eve of the Tory Conference on ‘Red Ed’ and his father’s Marxist views, which included the proposition that he hated Britain, was an attempt to bring down the up and coming Labour leader a peg or two.

As events have transpired. the Mail attack has failed.

And an apology from Lord Rothermere, the owner of the Mail group, the Mail on Sunday for sending a reporter to a private family memorial, has made the much respected and feared newspaper of middle England, look silly.

Ed Miliband has accused the Mail of Anti-Semitism and pointed to the practices within the newspaper that would allow an intrusion into private grief, something that has been experienced by a number of families less high-profile than his.

Ed Miliband has emerged stronger from this very personal attack.

But if he is truly serious about questioning newspaper practice than he has to look at how the whole industry has managed to demonize a whole community since 9/11 in much the same way that the Jews were in the thirties.

And how of course that has managed to seep in the broadcasting industry and how it covers events involving Muslims here and in Muslim lands.
