LONDON – Press TV could be back on the UK airwaves, Professor Stewart Purvis who was on the OFCOM board that made the decision to take the Iranian-owned broadcaster off air said today in an exclusive Template interview.
Prof Purvisย saidย Press TV had not been able to meet European standards and regulations, highlighting the interviewย broadcastย with a man who later said he had been under duress from the Iranian authorities asย an example of this.
He did not however rule out a time when OFCOM andย Press TV could meet and iron outย the problems, that mean thatย viewers can onlyย see the channelย on the deregulated web.

ANALYSIS – With the Leveson Inquiry currently revealing everything that is wrong at the heart of journalism,ย one case has just concluded that has just shown exactly the opposite, namely when a newspaper gets all the elements right, public interest and a cracking story which you can sell.
Banker Nathaniel Rothschild has just lost hisย libel actionย against the Daily Mail who reported that he had set up a meeting betweenย ย Lord Mandelson and Russian oligarch Oleg Deripaska.
The newspaperย portrayed him as a ‘puppet-master and ย suggested that he had helped smooth a ยฃ500 million aluminium deal in 2005.
The article claimed that Mr Rothschild used Lord Mandelson – then European Commissioner for Trade – to impress Oleg Deripaska, the billionaire owner of Russia’s biggest aluminium plant, during a visit to Siberia.
The 40-year-old heir to the Rothschild banking dynasty had demanded ‘very substantial’ damages.
Anyone want to regulate the press now?

Polarising figure no more?
An eighty-year-old man appeared before a parliamentary committee earlier today to answer questions about how the organistation that he ran had managed to hack into the phones of so many people, including that of the dead schoolgirl Milly Dowler.
No he was not to blame, he said, he had been let down by the people he had trusted.
And he was very, very sorry for the harm that had been caused.
This was, he said, the worst day of his life.
As you watched this giant of the media world being humbled by a parliamentary process of country that was not of his birth, somehow you were aware that you would never look Rupert Murdoch in the same way ever again. Great Power is only great when it is behind in the shadows, when it is exposed to the sunlight it can wilt, that was the lesson that America had taken from the attacks on 9/11, namely that she had ceased to be a great power and in a sense she is still attempting to recover back that position to this day.
We may never look at Rupert Murdoch in the same way again, whether that is a bad thing remains to be seen.

Rupert Murdoch should not be blinded by an emotional attachment to a small and declining part of his empire. Those were the last words to a Lex column in the Financial Times yesterday.ย The piece was of course referring to the News of the World, which was part of a newspaper division โ that included The Sun and other profitable tittles in the US and Australia โ that contributed only 13 percent to News Corpโs 2010 operating profits.
The piece began with the claim that News Corp was in a BP-style mess and accompanied a frontpage that carried the headline โMurdoch investors take frightโ โ Brooks (Rebekah) backed over NoW, Fears for BSkyB bid, News Corp shares fall.
As the phone hacking scandal escalated yesterday, following the revelation that voice messages that had been hacked into included those of murdered British school girl Milly Dowler, were the closing words to that Lex column still ringing in Rupert Murdochโ s ears when he decided to close down a title he had bought in 1969?
