KIEV – Ukraine says rebels have renewed an offensive in the East. Fighting between separatists and Ukraine restarted on Sunday with fighting concentrating on the town of Sivtlodarsk. Eight soldiers have been killed so far. Ukraine’s borders started to close in after Russian tanks rolled into Crimea in 2014.

WASHINGTON – In their first major response to the Ukraine conflict, Washington says America will deploy three combat divisions in eastern Europe from next year onwards. Russia annexed Crimea in March 2014, and Russian backed separatists seized parts of eastern Ukraine after protesters in Kiev overthrew a Moscow backed regime.

EAST UKRAINE – UNHCR says a ceasefire between eastern separatists and Kiev has reduced the number of casualties. However, the UN warned, a humanitarian crisis was unfolding in East Ukraine. The Ukraine conflict began when Russia annexed Crimea in 2014, and ended with the fall of the strategic railway hub of Debaltseve in Feb 2015. By that time the rebels had also seized Donetsk airport.
