Brazil 2014, England, England v Denmark, football, International Friendly, Roy Hodgson, World Cup 2014
ANALYSIS –ย Denmark is clearly rebuilding its football team – that was obvious to everyone who watched England’s unsatisfying 1-0 win at Wembley Stadium last night. They are not going to the World Cup in 98 days time. Trouble is, its Roy Hodgson’s team of unlikely lads that have that dubious pleasure. England showed no sign that they have moved on from the European debacle, when a flat and tired looking side folded as soon as they faced the first real opposition in the competition, namely Italy. This England side doesn’t look tired but it is still flat, lacks imagination and creativity at the front, and frankly appears clueless – each player struggling to find a role in a side that still hasn’t cemented into a team capable of going beyond the qualifying stages of a major tournament. Of course, there aren’t any great teams out there, but England are floundering and Roy Hodgson’s comments that he felt the national side were shaping up nicely show that he is either deluded or plain stupid.
The Danish manager wished them good luck last night.ย On the evidence of their performance yesterday and during the last two ‘friendlies’ they are going to need a lot more than that in Brazil 2014.

Contemplating failure?
TEMPLATE ANALYSIS
The last two games that this country’s national soccer side were involved in, have been cited by most commentators, even the most the patriotic ones, as a wake-up call for England’s chances when they enter the lofty heights of tournament football.
Chile, and later Germany showed, that despite fielding a ‘second-team’ against England, that they were a yard ahead in terms of class.
In the case of Chile, one outstanding player, namely Alexis Sanchez, proved to be the difference.
But perhaps, more disappointingly, against Germany Roy Hodgson’s men lacked a clear structure and were caught short on the counter on a number of occasions – the scoreline of 1-0 could easily have been two or three.
England don’t play to a game plan, and when they do they stick to it rigidly. When playing in qualifying games to major competitions that is fine, but you will always come unstuck when facing the best in Europe or the World.
And at a time, when more money than ever is going to be poured into the Premiership – thanks BTSport’s One billion pound deal – ย that only mean more failure and disappointment at an international level for England’s overpriced and overrated football ‘stars.’

Brazil has become the sixth-biggest economy in the world, the BBC’s website reports. It says the country’s finance minister Guido Mantega said the Brazilian economy is now worth $2.5tn (ยฃ1.6tn).
The Latin American nation’s economy grew 2.7% last year, official figures show, more than the UK’s 0.8% growth.
The National Institute of Economic and Social Research (NIESR) and other economic forecasters also said that Brazil had now overtaken the UK.
Mantega said: “It is not important to be the world’s sixth-biggest economy, but to be among the most dynamic economies, and with sustainable growth.”
Brazil is enjoying an economic boom because of high food and oil prices, which has led to rapid growth.
In 2010, the Brazilian economy was worth $2.09tn, compared with the UK’s $2.25tn total output, in current US dollars, according to the International Monetary Fund.
However, according to NIESR, using the IMF’s figures at current exchange rates, Brazil’s economy is now $2.52tn and the UK’s is $2.48tn.
The larger increase in the nominal size of both economies is explained by domestic inflation.
The Centre for Economics and Business Research has also said that Brazil’s economy has overtaken the UK’s.
In the fourth quarter of last year, Brazil’s economy grew by 0.3% from the previous quarter, according to Instituto Brasileiro de Geografia de Estatistica.
Brazil, the largest Latin American economy and one of the so-called Bric nations together with Russia, India and China, has seen its economy soar in recent years, with growth far outpacing the US and western Europe, but sending inflation higher.
The currency, the real, fell 11% against the US dollar last year.
That is after two years of huge gains – up 5% in 2010 and 34% in 2009. The currency is worth more than double what it was 10 years ago.
With substantial oil and gas reserves continuing to be discovered off Brazil’s coast in recent years, the country is now the world’s ninth largest oil producer, and the government wishes to ultimately enter the top five.
The country will also host the 2014 World Cup, and Rio de Janeiro will be home to the 2016 summer Olympics.
