PALESTINE – Elections for Mayors and local councils will be held in 425 communities in West Bank and Gaza on Oct 8. This will be the first test of popularity of Fatah and Hamas although Hamas activists face arrest by Israeli authorities if they campaign openly. Gaza has been punished by Israel with a siege after Palestinians voted for Hamas in 2006.
