WALES, UK – The future of Britain’s steel industry is in severe doubt after the PM effectivey ruled out nationalisation of the troubled Port Talbot plant in Wales. David Cameron said there were no guarantees after TATA steel announced it would be putting its UK operation up for sale. TATA which says it’s losing £1M a day from it’s Port Talbot plant alone also has plants in  Rotherham, Corby and Shotton employing some 15, 000 people. Britain’s steel industry has suffered from a glut of cheap Chinese steel on the market. Steel production makes up 1% of Britain’s manufacturing output and 0.1% of it’s economic output.

WASHINGTON – In their first major response to the Ukraine conflict, Washington says America will deploy three combat divisions in eastern Europe from next year onwards. Russia annexed Crimea in March 2014, and Russian backed separatists seized parts of eastern Ukraine after protesters in Kiev overthrew a Moscow backed regime.

LA LIGA – Gary Neville leaves Valencia after less than four months in charge. During his tenure, he won three games from 16, and Valencia were eliminated from the Champions League and Europa CUP. Perhaps his worst result was the 7-0 thrashing by Barcelona in the Spanish CUP semi final, first leg.

LARNACA – Ben Innes, 26, from Leeds was one of the hostages held by Seif eldin Mustafa who claimed to be wearing a suicide belt on the EgyptAir plane that was diverted to Larnaca yesterday. Mustafa was later revealed to be wearing a fake vest and had been motivated by personal issue involving a woman and not terrorism. Innes said he didn’t know why he posed for the picture but figured there was nothing to lose since he had assumed the belt was real.
