ANALYSIS – America and it’s allies, namely Europe, Gulf States like Saudi Arabia, Egypt and Israel, as well as Japan, South Korea and Colombia continue to call for the removal of President Bashar al Assad of Syria. The rest of the world doesn’t. For countries like Russia, Iran, China and Brazil know the appalling humanitarian consequences that would befall Syria should the central government collapse. They know this because instability in Afghanistan, Iraq, Libya and the vacated areas of Syria has unleashed an unprecedented scale of human suffering, including waves and waves of desperate people fleeing places that were once their homes. But the West continues to peddle this failed enterprise and so does the UN whose secretary general actually blamed Russia and China for ‘prolonging’ the conflict. This crisis, like the ones in Palestine and Egypt to name but two, has revealed to all of us who really drives international affairs. It has also revealed the lengths those selfish nations will go to get their own way.
