The Palestinian leadership of Mahmoud Abbas says that America’s opposition to her bid for nationhood has seriously diminished the superpower’s role as a fair broker in the region.

Watching President Obama at the UN Grand Assembly two days ago it was hard not to agree with this.

The American President said the Jewish people had suffered the duel fates of being expelled from their historic homeland some two thousand years ago, and the Holocaust.

Of course, the Palestinians had nothing to do with either.

Obama simply spelled out America’s position which was cemented after the six-day war when the tiny state of Israel became a Middle Eastern Superpower.

She had proved herself, and would from now onwards receive America’s full backing.

Abbas like the rest of us had probably fallen for that talk of change that was promised when Obama first came to power.
