TEMPLATE ANALYSIS
First, it was the Koreans, or was it the Taiwanese, who undercut everyone producing cheap goods for the rich global north.
They were followed by the growth story that was Indonesia, where branded goods were created in battery like conditions by human beings who were treated no better than hens laying eggs for supermarket chains.
And then came the Chinese miracle, where poor peasants worked endless hours in conditions that no one from the outside world was ever allowed to see, flooding western markets with ever cheaper goods.
Now, it’s the turn of Bangladesh, the Third World nation that will go that much lower, push their desperately poor workers that much further to produce goods for brands like Lee Cooper, and the Arcadia owned BHS.
It’s a given that child labour is employed, its a given that the poor mainly women are expected to worked impossibly long hours to meet deadlines and targets set by companies who are answerable only to the shareholders, and who clearly turn a blind eye to Dickensian work conditions.
When a building called the Rana Plaza collapsed in Dacca, more than a thousand souls perished under the rubble. Like 9/11, it was a completely avoidable disaster, but unlike the attacks on the twin towers the world did not take action to find and punish the culprits.
Instead, things have largely continued as before, as last night’s EXPOSURE programme on ITV showed. Sure, there have been closures and punishments, but it won’t do. It won’t do when weak women – often too tired or frightened to speak – are kicked for not standing straight by supervisors who think it’s their given right to mistreat workers because they have been set impossibly difficult deadlines by multi billion dollar companies who employ the cheapest possible labour through using middle men and fixers.
Bangladesh is proud of its textile industry and the chances are the ‘Made in Bangladesh’ label will be the most familiar one to anyone buying goods in the west – after of course that of China. No doubt in the future, there will be another nation that will go that much lower, push their workers that much harder to meet ever tighter deadlines for the cheapest possible price. And it’s a state of affairs the ‘World’ does not seem able or willing to do anything about.

Larry Hagman, known to millions around the world as oil baron JR Ewing, has died at the age of 81 following a battle with cancer and cirrhosis.
“Larry was back in his beloved Dallas, re-enacting the iconic role he loved most,” said his family in a statement. “He was surrounded by by Giant Savings” href=”#”>loved ones.”
Long-time friend Linda Gray, who played Sue Ellen, was by his bedside, when he died on Friday.
“Larry Hagman was my best friend for 35 years,” said Ms Gray in a statement released by her agent.
“He was the Pied Piper of life and brought joy to everyone he knew. He was creative, generous, funny, loving and talented and I will by Giant Savings” href=”#”>miss him enormously.
“He was an original and lived life to the full.”
Original cast member Victoria Principal, who played Pam Ewing, said Hagman had been “bigger than life, on-screen and off”.
During 13 years as the most scheming oil tycoon in Dallas, JR in his Stetson became one of the most distinctive faces on television screens across the world.
It quickly became one of the network’s top-rated by Giant Savings” href=”#”>programmes – with its 356 episodes being seen by an estimated 300 million people in 57 countries – and was revived this year.
Born in Texas, Hagman later moved to Los Angeles where he was cared for mainly by his grandmother.
After a brief period spent working in the fields, Hagman followed his mother – stage and screen actress Mary Martin – into showbusiness and even toured and played in musicals with her.
Moving into television, he played astronaut Tony Nelson in the 1960s television comedy I Dream of Jeannie.
He first performed as JR Ewing in 1978 and became its highest-paid star, as the programme came to define 1980s excess.
The actor himself owned more than 2,000 cowboy hats, his character’s trademark.
When Dallas finally finished in 1991, Hagman went on to appear in hit films Nixon and Primary Colors.

TEMPLATE ANALYSIS
Anyone who looks at the map of the Middle East, can not fail to notice the size of the land of the people of Israel. And whats more, she is wedged between the West Bank and Gaza, land like that of East Jerusalem, which is technically Palestinian. So, when Israel speaks of being threatened and surrounded by hostile neighbours, she does have a point. However, since the six-day war of 1967, she has been winning wars, and has been backed politically, economically and of course militarily by a Superpower that has always regarded her as special case.
The latest Gaza war and the obvious powerlessness of any of the Arab nations, including Turkey and Iran, to muster any kind of military response has meant that she remains the preeminent power in the region.
Yet, policy makers in Tel Aviv are going to have to face reality – they can not continue to behave in an appalling way towards the Palestinians, who remain the people without a land living on a land from which they wer displaced.
The astonishing thing about the Palestinians, according to those who meet them, is how little malice they actually hold towards Israel, considering how much they have suffered and had to endure since the proclamation of the Jewish state on May 14, 1948.
Even now, Israel’s leaders have an opportunity to solve the Palestinian Question.
It could start with a viable Palestinian state in Gaza, West Bank and East Jerusalem with the long-term view to breaking down the borders to create a single whole Israel-Palestine where Jews, Muslims and Christians co-exist in the much the same as they have for centuries.
Of course, the extremists will oppose it, and unfortunately the ones who live in and control Israel’s political system are less accommodating than are Hamas.

In a ruling on Thursday, Ofcom said: “In July 2011, in light of the public debate about phone hacking and other allegations, Ofcom confirmed that it had a duty to consider whether Sky was fit and proper to continue to hold its broadcast licences.
“Ofcom considers that, on the evidence currently available and having taken into account all the relevant factors, Sky is fit and proper to hold its broadcast licences.”
Ofcom said, however, that “should further evidence become available” it may review the issue. Criminal investigations into phone hacking continue and several court cases involving senior executives from News International are pending.
However, the conduct of James Murdoch, who resigned as chairman of BSkyB in April (but remains a non-executive director) and has also relinquished his role at the UK newspaper group, was questionable, Ofcom concluded.
The regulator said: “Ofcom considers on the basis of the evidence available to date… James Murdoch’s conduct in relation to events at NGN [the newspaper group] repeatedly fell short of the conduct to be expected of him as a chief executive officer and chairman.
“However, Ofcom considers that the evidence available to date does not provide a reasonable basis to conclude that James Murdoch deliberately engaged in any wrongdoing.”
While acknowledging that many of the circumstances over phone hacking were outside of Mr Murdoch’s control or unknown to him, Ofcom criticises severely his failure to make himself aware of the deepening scandal.
“We consider James Murdoch’s conduct, including his failure to initiate action on his own account on a number of occasions, to be both difficult to comprehend and ill-judged.
“We consider that the events… raise questions regarding James Murdoch’s competence in the handling of these matters, and his attitude towards the possibility of wrongdoing in the companies for which he was responsible,” Ofcom said.
The regulator said that Mr Murdoch’s non-executive role on the BSkyB board did not impact on its “fit and proper” test, because there were other “experienced individuals who would be expected to be capable of exercising effective independent oversight”.
Ofcom continued: “We recognise that whether it is appropriate for James Murdoch to be a director in light of the events is a matter for the board and shareholders of Sky.”
