BANGLADESH – Supreme Court clears way for execution of Motiur Rahman Nizami, leader of Jamaat e Islami, for ‘war crimes’ said to have been perpetrated during the 1971 war in East Pakistan. Bangladesh’s war crimes tribunals set up by Sheikh Hasina’s ruling Awami party   have no international recognition. Critics say they are politically motivated. Four people have been killed since the hearings were set up in 2010 – three from Jamaat e Islami and all opponents of the eventual secession from West Pakistan.
