ACTING SPEAKER of Lower House has stopped the impeachment process going to the Senate. Waldir Maranhoa was acting speaker because the previous speaker Eduardo Cunha (pictured below) who was one of the prominent movers behind the impeachment was arrested for corruption. Dilma Rousseff said Eduardo and Michel Temer vice presidentΒ were attempting a coup. No one knows whether this is an end to the impeachment against the socialist President.

BRAZIL – A constitutional congressional committee has voted to impeach Dilma Rousseff. The vote is symbolic, but is seen as a test of what will happen on 17/18 April when the lower house will decide on whether to send the matter to the Senate. Should proceedings get that far, then BRAZIL’S President could be suspended of her powers and put on trial. BRAZIL’S economy has suffered from falling commodity prices and a fall in demand from China. There have been protests for and against the socialist government of Dilma Rousseff.
