HANOI – Tensions with China centre over Beijing’s claim to supremacy of the South China Sea. China has staked claim on Spratly Islands which is contested by Vietnam, South Korea, Taiwan and Philippines. China has also threatened American companies with sanctions for arms sales to Taiwan who it regards as a renegade province.
