BRASILIAΒ – Dilma Rousseff, who was suspended from office of Presidency, now faces a vote in Brazil’s Senate which is expected to strip her of a position she twice won at the ballot box.
Two thirds – 54 of the 81 senators – need to vote in favour of her impeachment for that to happen.
Brazil’s first female president has been defending herself during a marathon session at the Senate which began on Monday and is expected to run until Wednesday.
Dilma Rousseff says she’s the victim of a political coup d’etat and that Brazil’s democracy is in danger.
Her accusers say she took illegal state loans to mask the state’s budget hole in 2014. Brazil’s economy has suffered from plunging commodity prices and weakening demand from China.
