BANGLADESH – Supreme Court clears way for execution of Motiur Rahman Nizami, leader of Jamaat e Islami, for ‘war crimes’ said to have been perpetrated during the 1971 war in East Pakistan.Β Bangladesh’s war crimes tribunals set up by Sheikh Hasina’s ruling Awami partyΒ Β  have no international recognition. Critics say they are politically motivated. Four people have been killed since the hearings were set up in 2010 – three from Jamaat e Islami and all opponents of the eventual secession from West Pakistan.
