KIRKUK – Daesh fighters launched a surprise attack on Kirkuk in response to Iraq’s battle to regain control of Mosul. 13 people were killed after an attack on a power plant. US-led Iraqi forces are attempting to seize the town of Hamdaniyah southeast of Mosul. Daesh have held Iraq’s second largest city since 2014. Some 1.5 million people are trapped in the fighting.
