After the first half the result of this game seemed a foregone conclusion – City scored two but could have gone with three on the board. However the game was turned on its head in the opening minutes of the second half when George Boyd capitalised on a Joe Hart mistake and from there onwards it was Burnley all the way who made the Premier League Champions look very ordinary. The second goal from Ashley Barnes ensured Burnley were in with a chance of winning the game even in the dying minutes – with five minutes of added time.

Chelsea’s lead at the top cut to one point should as appears Manchester City beat Burnley.  Chelsea put in lots of energy but created very few clear cut chances – at the end a 10-man Southampton held on for the last five minutes that included four minutes of extra time.
