The morning I was asked if the defeat for @UKLabour in Hartlepool was expected. Here is my answer 👇🏻 pic.twitter.com/HTMdLVfyY3

Incredibly disappointing defeat in Hartlepool.
We are going backwards in areas we need to be winning.
Labour's leadership needs to urgently change direction.
It should start by championing the popular policies in our recent manifestos – backed by a large majority of voters.

"If you're in a hole, stop digging", is generally sensible advice. The idea that Labour should carry on the same path, just pick up speed is just nonsense.
We need a change of strategy.— Diane Abbott MP (@HackneyAbbott) May 7, 2021
If these election results teach people anything it has to be that you can’t win elections without standing for something. https://t.co/uDq0O0nXhU

Well done to @MarkDrakeford and everyone in @WelshLabour for winning in Wales.
Labour in Wales has put socialist principles into practice and has been repeatedly backed by the public.
The whole Labour Party can learn from your experiences.

Yesterday's Hartlepool turnout was 30,000. In 2019 and 2017 it was 41,000. Labour votes are also reduced from 15K to 8K.
Basically, Labour lost because its core supporters refused to come out and vote for a party that are Tories with red rosettes.— Ragged Trousered Philanderer (@RaggedTP) May 7, 2021
Instead of making progress in key areas we need to win back, at these elections we've gone backwards. This can't go on.
There should now be a special Labour Party conference where the leadership outlines its plan to turn this around and seeks the confidence of the Party for it.

🗳 John MCDONNELL says Starmer's not taking responsibility.. he's 'scapegoating everyone but himself' for the disastrous election results.. I doubt whether Starmer will be leader of Labour this time next week #NayabChohanLIVE #politics pic.twitter.com/ZcxU7kSMFr

There’s no mandate for the Labour leadership to move further to Blairism & the right.
It’s not what party members voted for & it has no answers to the crises we face.
We need an inspiring, principled vision to transform society for the 99%, not bashing trade unions & the left.
— Zarah Sultana MP (@zarahsultana) May 9, 2021
Labour's leadership had no vision in these elections.
To rebuild we should push our popular policies:
67% back £10+ per hour min wage
83% back free personal care for the elderly
60%+ back public ownership of rail & mail
64% back higher taxes on the richAnd there's much more!
